Planning your transfer?

A private transfer from Punta Cana Airport (PUJ) takes you door to door along the east coast, from the gated resorts of Cap Cana and the Bavaro hotel cluster in around 15 to 30 minutes, to the quieter beaches of Uvero Alto around an hour to the north.

Suntransfers gives you a private vehicle for your whole group, from standard cars to minibuses and coaches for larger parties, with a driver waiting. Book online in advance, we track your flight and adjust your transfer if it is delayed, and cancel for free up to 48 hours before pick-up.

Travelling from Punta Cana Airport

Punta Cana Airport sits at the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic, close to Cabo Engaño, the easternmost point of the island, and is the country’s busiest airport and the gateway to its main resort coast.

Most journeys follow the Boulevard Turístico del Este, the main coastal road running north from the airport past the resort zones. With a private airport transfer the price is agreed before you travel, so there is no fare to negotiate after a long flight.

The resorts spread north and south from the airport. Cap Cana, a gated area of luxury resorts and marinas, sits closest at around 15 to 30 minutes. The large Bavaro cluster, home to most of the well-known all-inclusives, is around 30 minutes. Further north, Macao and then Uvero Alto are quieter and more spread out, at around 30 to 40 minutes and an hour respectively.

Heading further? Bayahibe and La Romana to the west are around an hour and a quarter, the usual starting point for boat trips to Saona Island.

FAQs

What travellers ask before heading to Punta Cana Airport.

How far is Punta Cana Airport from the resorts?

Punta Cana Airport sits at the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic, close to the main resort coast. Cap Cana and the Bavaro cluster are about 30 minutes way, whereas Uvero Alto to the north is around an hour drive. Because the resorts are spread along the coast, journey times vary a lot by destination.

How do I get from Punta Cana Airport to my hotel?

The most direct way is a private transfer, which takes you straight from arrivals to your hotel regardless of whether your hotel is in Cap Cana, Bavaro, Arena Gorda, or further out. Your driver meets you with a name board and the price is fixed in advance. Shared shuttles are the cheaper option but involve multiple stops, so they take longer if your hotel isn't first on the route.

How many terminals does Punta Cana Airport have?

Punta Cana Airport has two main terminals, A and B, both used for international flights and located about 100 metres apart. Regardless of where you land and whether you've booked a private transfer or a shared shuttle, your booking confirmation will include the exact pick-up point and any instructions you need to find your driver.

Can I get a transfer to Bayahibe or Arena Gorda?

Yes. Arena Gorda is one of the closer resort areas, around 25 to 30 minutes from Punta Cana Airport, while Bayahibe is further south and takes about an hour. Private transfers run directly to your resort, taking you straight to the entrance rather than a shared drop-off point.

What are the closest resorts to Punta Cana Airport?

Cap Cana and Punta Cana Village are the closest resort areas, around 10 to 20 minutes from the airport, followed by Cabeza de Toro, Bavaro and Arena Gorda, at around 25 to 35 minutes. Uvero Alto and Bayahibe are the furthest, taking closer to an hour or more depending on traffic. A private transfer covers any of these at one fixed price, taking you straight from arrivals to your resort entrance.

How early should I arrive at Punta Cana Airport?

For departures, aim to be at Punta Cana airport 3 hours before an international flight, with a buffer in high season when the terminals get busy. If we are driving you to the airport, we factor that into your pickup time so you have a comfortable buffer before your flight.

How far is Uvero Alto from Punta Cana Airport?

Uvero Alto is around 42 km from Punta Cana Airport, a drive of roughly an hour north. It's a quieter, more spread-out stretch of coast than Bavaro, with resorts set apart along the beach, so the final part of the drive can run on smaller roads into individual resort entrances.
