Travelling from Malaga Airport

Malaga Airport is the main arrival point for destinations right along the coast, from Costa del Sol resorts like Torremolinos, Benalmadena, and Fuengirola.

Malaga’s city centre, around the historic Cathedral, Calle Larios and Plaza de la Constitución, is largely pedestrianised. Your driver will drop you as close as vehicles can get, usually on the Alameda Principal or at Plaza de la Marina, a short walk from most old-town hotels.

The closest resort is Torremolinos at around 15 minutes, with Benalmadena around 20 minutes and Fuengirola about 25 minutes further along the coast. These are popular destinations for beach holidays, golf getaways, and family breaks.

Feeling adventurous? Destinations like Marbella, Nerja and Estepona are a longer drive along the coast, but a fixed-price transfer means traffic never changes what you pay.

FAQs

What travellers ask before travelling to Malaga Airport.

How far is Malaga Airport from the city centre?

Malaga Airport is roughly 8 to 12 km from the city centre, depending on exactly where you're heading. The historic centre and most hotels are toward the upper end of that range. By road, the journey usually takes around 15 to 20 minutes in normal traffic.

How much is a taxi from Malaga to Marbella?

A taxi from Malaga Airport to Marbella city generally costs around €80 to €100. Marbella is about 50 to 52 km from Malaga Airport, a journey of roughly 40 to 50 minutes. If the route uses the AP-7 toll road, a toll of roughly €5.70 to €9.25 may be added depending on the season, a cost that's already included in a fixed transfer price.

How far is Benalmadena from Malaga Airport?

Benalmadena is around 20 km from Malaga Airport, one of the closest resorts on the Costa del Sol. By road it's a short 15 to 20 minute drive, though the exact time depends on whether you're heading to the beachfront, the marina, or up in Arroyo de la Miel.

Are taxis readily available at Malaga Airport?

Malaga Airport has a 24/7 taxi rank just outside the T3 arrivals hall, with unpredictable waiting times and queues. Larger groups often wait longer for taxis with more seats and luggage space, and child seats or space for sports equipment aren't guaranteed.

Is there a train station inside Malaga Airport?

Malaga Airport has a train station right by Terminal 3, on the C-1 line, running on average every 20 minutes to destinations like central Malaga, Benalmadena, and Fuengirola. However, the C-1 line does not travel to Marbella, Nerja, or the inland towns, and the service faces occasional delays and cancellations.

Can I get a transfer to resorts in Torremolinos, Fuengirola or Nerja?

Yes. These are among the most popular Costa del Sol resorts reached from Malaga Airport. Torremolinos and Fuengirola are close by, around 15 to 30 minutes by road, while Nerja and Estepona sit further along the coast. The Costa del Sol is a popular golf area, so for clubs or extra luggage a minivan adds space. Private transfers run directly to each, taking you straight to your hotel or apartment.

How early should I arrive at Malaga Airport?

For departures, aim for 2 hours before a short-haul flight and 3 for long-haul, and add a buffer in summer when check-in and security get busy. If we're driving you to the airport, we'll factor that into your pickup time so you have a comfortable buffer before your flight.
