Planning your transfer?

A private transfer from Girona Airport (GRO) takes you door to door across the Costa Brava, from the resorts of Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar in around half an hour, to Barcelona roughly an hour and a quarter south on the AP-7.

Suntransfers gives you a private vehicle for your whole group, from standard cars to minibuses and coaches for larger parties, with a driver waiting. Book online in advance, we track your flight and adjust your transfer if it is delayed, and cancel for free up to 48 hours before pick-up.

Travelling from Girona Airport

Girona Airport sits about 15 km southwest of Girona city, near the village of Vilobí d’Onyar, and serves the whole Costa Brava as well as acting as a low-cost gateway to Barcelona and the Pyrenees.

Most journeys to Barcelona run south on the AP-7, the motorway that follows the coast, so with a private airport transfer the price is agreed before you travel. Unlike a metered taxi, traffic or a longer route will not change what you pay.

Girona’s own medieval old town, with its cathedral, Jewish Quarter and the painted houses along the Onyar river, sits about 20 to 25 minutes away. The southern Costa Brava resorts are closest: Lloret de Mar and Platja d’Aro at around 30 minutes, Tossa de Mar and Blanes a little beyond. Heading north, Roses and Empuriabrava are closer to 50 minutes to an hour.

Going further? Barcelona is around an hour and a quarter south, while the French border is roughly 40 minutes north, making Girona a common starting point for the Pyrenees and the ski resorts of Andorra.

FAQs

What travellers ask before heading to Girona Airport.

How far is Girona Airport from the city centre?

Girona Airport is around 13 km from Girona city centre. By road the journey usually takes about 20 to 25 minutes in normal traffic. The old town, cathedral and the riverside houses along the Onyar are compact and walkable once you arrive.

Can I get a transfer to Barcelona from Girona Airport?

Yes. Girona is often used as a low-cost gateway to Barcelona, which is around 90 to 100 km south. By road the drive takes roughly an hour and a quarter on the AP-7 motorway. A private transfer runs directly to your hotel, with the price fixed before you travel.

How far are the Costa Brava resorts from Girona Airport?

The southern Costa Brava is closest. Lloret de Mar and Platja d'Aro are around 30 km, about a 30 minute drive, while Tossa de Mar and Blanes sit a little further. Heading north, Roses and Empuriabrava are closer to 50 minutes to an hour. Private transfers run directly to each, taking you straight to your hotel or villa.

How much is a taxi from Girona Airport to Lloret de Mar?

A metered taxi from Girona Airport to Lloret de Mar generally costs around €70 to €90 depending on your exact drop-off, time of day, traffic, and luggage. Lloret is about 30 km away, a drive of roughly 30 minutes. By contrast, a private transfer has one fixed price, with your pickup rescheduled in case of delays.

Is Girona or Reus Airport closer to Barcelona?

Girona Airport is closer to Barcelona than Reus, though both are roughly 100 km away and involve over an hour to get to. Girona sits north-east of the city near the Costa Brava, while Reus is south-west, closer to the Costa Dorada and Tarragona. Neither airport offers a quick hop into Barcelona, so a private transfer is the most direct way to make either journey, taking you straight from arrivals to your accommodation without the stops or waiting time of shared shuttles.

What is the closest airport to Costa Brava?

Girona Airport is the closest to the Costa Brava, sitting just a short drive from resorts like Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar, and Platja d'Aro. Barcelona-El Prat also serves the region but adds more driving time, since it's to the south of the city rather than near the coast itself. This makes Girona the best option for travellers heading specifically to the Costa Brava rather than Barcelona city.

Are taxis readily available at Girona Airport?

Girona Airport has a taxi rank directly outside the arrivals hall. Waiting times can be unpredictable, especially during the busy summer arrivals window. Larger groups often wait longer for taxis with enough seats and luggage space, and child seats or room for golf and ski equipment are not guaranteed.

Can I use Girona Airport to reach the Pyrenees or Andorra?

Yes. Girona is a popular starting point for the mountains. The French border is around 40 minutes north, and many skiers use the airport as a gateway to the Pyrenees and Andorra. A private transfer with room for ski and snowboard gear takes you directly towards the resorts.
